8 Eyes for NES

All gamers love a little bit of retro gaming in their life and the NES provides plenty of that and one of the games include 8 Eyes. 8 Eyes is one of the many retro games that can be played online free at Nintendo’s website, but despite the old age of the game, 8 eyes can pose to be a challenge especially in this one level. Although you won’t find any game cheats here unless you have a cheating device, 8 eyes does rely on a password system that can take you to different parts areas of the game.

Gameplay

Not only does the main character resemble the main character of the popular NES game Castlevania, but the gameplay is quite similar as well. You control a single individual in a side-scroller adventure style gameplay equipped with only a sword and your fighting falcon Cutrus that is used to slay your enemies. As you progress through the game, you can pick up other weapons, but you can only carry a maximum of 2 weapons.

Strategy

All you need to do is play through the first 7 levels in any order and then conquer the final level and solve a puzzle to beat the game. However, the order of the 7 levels is important in making the game easier. When progressing through the levels, bear in mind that many of the power ups are hidden in the walls including these jars that can permanently extend your energy meter and a secret Clue Scroll in each level, which helps solve the final puzzle. While there are several weapons available that have their own ways of punishing your enemies, the boomerang and ice ball are worth keeping around because the boomerang can be used to pickup items and the ice ball stuns enemies, which also work on stage bosses.

Many of the enemies in the game have an attack pattern of rushing towards you to strike and move again afterwards. Simply dodge the attack and sneak in a few hits and repeat. When you hit enemies, they flash eliminating any possibility of hurting you even if you are near them.

Start in Spain and work your way through the rooms. Make sure you get the Ice Ball from one of the guards and keep it for your first boss battle. Make sure you save your item power so you can make short work of the boss. There is also an “S” Jar powerup hidden in the wall, which can only be obtained by a boomerang. After you get the first jewel from the boss, proceed to Egypt. You can get another “S” Jar hidden below the leftmost statue before the entrance. Since you did Spain previously, the boss battle should be much easier. As before, always have the ice ball with you to make short work of the boss.

Once you beat Egypt and Spain you should have no trouble with the rest of the areas if you stick to the basic strategies and follow the correct order of levels. After Egypt, head to Italy followed by India and then Africa which can be a bit tricky since it has a maze layout. After Africa, head to the other maze level at Germany and finally do Arabia, which can be tricky with the lack of powerups.

The final stage lies in the House of Ruth and surprisingly, it’s a simple level. You’ll meet with a few old bosses and the last boss herself who is quite easy to beat using generic strategy. After you beat the final boss, you should end up in the Altar of Peace where you need to place the jewels in a certain order. If you have all the Clue Scrolls, you should be able to figure it out yourself. If not, put it in this order: (left to right) Yellow, White, Green, Orange, Blue, Purple, Red, and Black. Note that you need to insert in order so when you first put the white one, make sure it goes 2nd from the left. If you did it successfully, you finish the game.

You will be presented with a password to start the game over at a harder difficulty level. Use TAXANTAXAN if you want to try now. There is also a hidden hardest difficulty by using FINALSTAGE as your password.

8 eyes has its repetitive gameplay, but the extra challenges and fun puzzle ending make it pretty interesting. You don’t really need game cheats to conquer this game.
