3X3 Eyes for Sega Saturn
3x3 Eyes for Sega Saturn is the first in a series of role playing games. Another name for 3x3 Eyes is Kyuusei Koushu S. The game was developed and published by Nihon Create as an adventure story in the first person. The game was first released in 1996. It only had one release date because it was made for Japan only, unlike many other games for consoles. 3x3 Eyes was meant to support an actual role playing situation with other people. It is considered an anime/ manga interactive with graphics.
In fact the games called 3x3 Eyes are based on a Japanese Anime/ Manga called Sazan Eyes. The story board begins with a group of people in China. They discovered the secret of eternal life. However, these people paid a high cost for their discovery. Once they found the secret a third eye appeared on their forehead.
If the eye was to open it would unleash a disastrous power based on magic. The group became known as the Sanjiyan or the three eyed ones. They were much like demonic creatures and even look rather bizarre in the game. Pai is just one of the characters, and she desires to return to her normal limited life. At one point in the story Pai meets a scientist who is trying to help her, but in an accident he dies. Pai then has to work with the scientist’s son Yakumo. Yakumo through trials of his own unfortunately lost his own human aspects. Since he wants to return to normal the pair team up and this is where the game truly begins.
Yakumo gets a message from a Buddhist Monk, Naparvha. This man is a friend to Yakumo. The message is that a village in China is suffering a great deal due to a curse. A girl was killed, but the details are unknown. Then two monks were found asleep and no one can waken them. Yakumo is worried about his friend and the village goes there to investigate. He is followed by Yue Hua who is bent on helping out because it was her sister that was killed.
Now that you have the background on the 3x3 Eyes game it is important to understand how it is formatted. Unlike games of today, 3x3 Eyes is a story board. You have a shot of a surrounding area where you can interact with the environment rather than being shot along in the story. The menu will tell you what your options are such as walk, talk, move, look, etc. The games based on the Manga are all about the story rather than puzzles. It does not take a lot of brain power to get through the various steps as there are no puzzles. It is more of an adventure.
3x3 Eyes can only be played on the Japanese version of Sega Saturn. There are no translations of the game, so to play it you have to have a basic knowledge of the language.
According to some trivia we found Kyuusei Koushu means “Soul Draining” in Japanese.
There are no known game cheats for 3x3 Eyes. Instead the player must choose their options in order to get the adventure on the move. There will be times when it is impossible to go back a step and other times where you can explore the screen shot for everything before making a move.
The various moves you make will lead you further into the story and towards the solution. Like all games, 3x3 Eyes is all about finding out what the curse is in the village and lifting it by going up against others. At some points in the story Yakumo will try to get information based on his curse to solve his problems.
A good strategy for the games and story board is to know the background Manga and the background story that is at the beginning of the game. By knowing where the story is ultimately leading one can get through it a little easier. Another good rule is to make sure you explore the screen shot thoroughly before moving on to the next stage. In other words if there are three people to talk with in that scene you should talk with them all before moving on.
The adventure is one of interest, but the much needed poking around can ultimately get old. This is a good game to play on and off. By coming back it seems like a different game, which could get you further.
