3D Baseball for Sony Playstation 1
Before 1996 there were numerous baseball games out there for other consoles. Sony had the Pennant Race and Sega had the World Series Baseball II. However, in 1996 a new release hit the stands for Sony Playstation 1. This game was 3D Baseball from Crystal Dynamics. It changed the way you could see and play the game. Many found it to be the best looking baseball video game alive at the time.
This had a lot to do with the "Real Motion Capture" of the game. The players look like real players throwing the balls, catching, or pitching. For example the pitcher hunches over getting ready to the action, standing on the rubber mount, looking down, shaking himself to get ready, and then the pitch! Crowd goes wild! Then it is to the batter. The batter has to go for the hit. If the batter strikes out he hits the plate with the bat in anger over getting shut out. Outfielders can catch the balls looking like pros, and before you know it they are throwing the ball to home!
What makes the 3D Baseball one of the best is not only the graphics set up in 3 dimensional, but also the ease of playing the game. The controls are extremely easy to learn making it easy to bat, pitch, or act as another player in the game. 3D Baseball is a one to two player game, where you can have a batter for one player and a pitcher for the other.
To improve the game even more is the announcer telling you the play by play of the pitch, bat, and run. The game is free from delays, hiccups and other issues that other baseball games have. There are a few issues with the game, such as the fans in the stands. The shots towards them can make you lose site of the actual play. Then there is the fact that the team logos could not be borrowed from real life. The logos are all fictional. These are just minor issues with the game though.
There are some lovely options in 3D Baseball that will make it more fun for players. For example there are four stadiums. If you get tired of playing one you can move on to the other. It will be a little different as to difficulty. The real drawback in the game is the lack of an all star, home run derby, and playoff modes. These other modes from other games have allowed for practice before a real game is played.
Video games for the Playstation often have hidden gems inside though. Within 3D Baseball there are a couple of little secrets we will share. These game cheats allow you to work the game better and have a little more fun.
First up in game cheats is the secret mini game. This game can be reached when the game is loading. When the game is still in loading mode you can hold the R1 and circle down at the same time. CD?s will begin to move across the screen. At this juncture you need to hit up, left, down, and then right.
From this point a character will appear at the left side bottom on the screen. The player tells you the code was entered correctly. The next time you load the game the secret mini game will appear, which is totally different from the regular play.
In games like this the cheats and strategy have more to do with how your skills are rather than winning the game every time it loads. The bonus mini game is really the only secret of 3D Baseball that helps you out.
Otherwise you have to practice pitching or hitting the balls in order to play the game. The better you are at hitting the ball the more fun you will have. Baseball games like this work the same way a live game does. You have nine innings, three strikes per game, three players must strike out, and you can get home runs.
To get home runs you obviously have to practice a great deal or be a natural at Playstation games in order to win. The other players in the game will be computer generated, unless you are playing two players. In which case, the other player will also have to go off their skill to win. The game is certainly filled with spectacular graphics to heighten the enjoyment of the game for all players.
