007 Racing from Sony Playstation

This James Bond style racing game from EA games gives you the chance to become the most famous British spy in the world! As you become the character of James bond and get the chance to drive all the latest cars and use all the coolest gadgets acquired from ‘Q-Branch’, you get your very own chance to save the world from certain doom! During the course of a series of 14 different missions, taking you through various locations, you will hunt, race, abolish and avoid a range criminals in order to put a stop to the evil lords ‘mad scientists’ plan!

One of the most exciting things about this game are the choices of cars you can drive. As it is a racing arcade game you will get to choose between a variety of true and thrilling James Bond cars. These include the Aston Martin DB5 whose initial appearance in was in Gold finger, the Lotus Esprit and the BMW Z3 that briefly made an  appearance in the film, Golden Eye, as well as a whole host of other amazing cars and vehicles. This is not just your average computer racing game as each separate car is equipped with a whole range of amazing gadgets and gizmos that can improve your speed, tactics and style. You have a selection of different start up weapons to choose from and each car can be fitted with different items as the game progresses, though only one at a time,  like shields, rockets, missiles, smoke screens, machine guns, and oil slicks to name a few.

There are a variety of different missions and tasks to complete that range from the simple collection of an object while making sure you stay alive up to more complicated and hard tasks.  After completing all the levels on your own you can then play multiplayer missions in which you can destroy the other car or even a two player game called ‘pass the bomb’.
The basics of 007 racing are that it is a simple arcade racing game. The objective-based missions allow you to destroy enemies and also just straight out racing.

Many people were a bit surprised when this game was released as to the low quality of the graphics it has provided. Its close resemblance to Spy Hunter just accentuates how 007 racing didn’t match up to the other games that were released around the same time. The characters are not up to scratch and the affects of the collisions and attacks are not as impressive as they could be.

There are many websites and forums that are available for you to find cheats, hints and tips on how to improve your scores on this game. There are also a variety of walk through pages which allow you to go through every scene and explain how you can do it and what tips there are to get through to the next levels. One of the main unlock codes is to enter your name in ‘Mission Mode’ as MMMQRRQ and this will unlock all the codes available in the game. You can even have a rendezvous with some pretty special Bond girls in the cheat menu where they will give you some special suggestions and ideas to improve your game play.

Although this is a nice game and has many fantastic features but just don’t expect too much from it. It is a very poor replica of many other games that have been released which were done in a much better style. The sound, effects and graphics could all be improved to add more spice and adventure to the game but as it is, it is very playable and fun for all.

The game concept was excellent. Alas, the execution didn’t match up to the expectations. The cons just far outweigh the pros. The controls could do with some primping and improvements as well as the frustration factor being too high. This game is perfect for people who are very interested in cars and racing but not so brilliant for people looking for stealth, spy and mystery games. So the final consensus seemed to be that, regarding this game was the idea was much more advanced than the actual execution of it.
