A-10 Tank Killer for PC
If you enjoy flying and taking out tanks along with other obstacles along the way, then you'll enjoy the A-10 Tank Killer series for the PC. Known by many as one of the best combat simulations around, A-10 Tank Killer delivers creative appeal and great graphics to make you feel as though you are literally taking on the world. However, there is more to this PC game then originally meets the eye.
You'll soon find yourself sitting in a A-10 fighter plane doing what it does best, getting rid of tanks and bridges. Equipped with a 30mm cannon, taking out everything in your path will be both entertaining and challenging. Using a bit of strategy along with substantial flying techniques this game transformed the way flight simulations have been built for PC games for almost twenty years.
Amazingly enough you'll find this to be an older addition dating back to its release in 1989, but it will still out perform many games made today. Basically it paved the way for even better versions such as Silent Thunder and many others. The first thing you will soon notice is the games ability to have a smooth transition from one scene to another without the choppy "stop and go" performance.
Granted the hills and horizons definitely give off the old style graphics, but the rolls, acceleration, and combat abilities still can hold their own. One of the best things to understand about this PC game is that it can be a great pre-play to all the others that are made today. This will allow you to interact and familiarize yourself with the controls of a flight simulation game in general. Oddly enough, you could find yourself enjoying this so much that it might be the only one you purchase.
As you go through each mission the controls can be a little daunting at first after playing various today. We believe that the best option for you is to have the additional hand held controls as opposed to the ancient keyboard style. It will give you an advantage and definitely make things a whole lot easier then trying to remember arrows, space bars, shifts, and other options. Since this is the twenty-first century, this could be the only downfall to this game.
If you are all about records and find yourself missing out on a particular mission there is an abort system you can use so your bad outing won't be on file. A simple control, ALT, delete will take care of the trick. Keep in mind this has to be done with the time span that it is loading the next page. Since the combination is turned off during play, this is the only time you'll see it work. So if this is important to your gaming progress, then be sure to keep it in mind before the next mission.
Don't get us wrong though, there were plenty of games out there letting you sit behind a jet and taking on other fighter planes during the time this was released. The difference at the time was that there weren't any other simulation games out there when this one thrust onto the PC scene. While many others will consider this to be a cheap version of simulation with the new technology out there today, you can still find it on the top 10 list for flight simulation games.
We recommend that if you haven't played these types of PC games before, then this is a great place to start. Oddly enough it seems that after nineteen years, the graphics really don't look too out of date. Especially since you won't find many games of this nature sporting the same types of graphics as say a 360 or PS3 console. Everyone knows computer games are different, but once you see the screen shots you'll get a better understanding of what to expect.
In the end this could be considered a classic game for the computer. Think of it as PacMan or something similar that has been around since the beginning, yet can still be enjoyable to play today. Listen, as complex as the controls are in the twenty-first century, the A-10 Tank Killer may be just what you need to begin your aerial attacks on your enemies.
