Sony Playstation games are a thing of the past these days, but a lot of the games remain memorable such as 1 Xtreme. 1 Xtreme was previously known as ESPN Extreme Games and served as one of the first games that hit the Sony Playstation at the time. Mastering this game requires a lot of skill in reaching the top place in the long tracks. Gameplay

1 Xtreme has the typical elements that are found in standard racing games, but there is added depth where you can choose four different things to ride. Choose from a skateboard, a mountain bike, a pair of in-line skates, or a street luge to get started. You’ll also need to pair the ride with a character that you can select from a group. Each character has different strengths and weaknesses for each ride so be sure to practice with each ride and find out which is best for the particular track.

Your main opponents are the other contestants that are against you and the various obstacles that you’ll encounter in the long winding tracks. Each track is filled with all sorts of obstacles that go in your way and useful ramps that can give the edge against your opponents.

Hints

Keep your fingers on the shoulder buttons at all costs, because you can use them to topple opponents left and right of you so you can split ahead of them. The best time to these is on tight turns so they will have a harder time regaining their speed. At the same time, keep an eye out for the environs and familiarize yourself with the track on the first couple of laps so you can breeze through the area dodging obstacles and taking good advantage of the essentials on the road. Some of the tracks have some hidden areas and shortcuts as well. For instance, in the Italy course, there is an area that dips downhill past a couple of columns with a purple gate found on the very left side of the screen. Entering this gate transfers you to a hidden crypt where you can find skeletons and extra gates. Make sure you also go through all the gates in each course so you can enter a bonus cash course that can earn you extra money.

Money is an important part of the game that can be spent to buy faster equipment. If you ever spent the money the wrong way or find yourself short on cash, you can grab the opportunity for some easy free cash by going to the equipment room and checking the TV market with a “1”. By pressing the X button, the AI opponents become deactivated allowing you to participate in courses all by yourself. This lets you study the track and ensures you that number 1 spot where you can virtually earn unlimited money if you repeat the process. You can also obtain money by applying some of the cheats found in the next section.

The “Super Athlete” code lets you play as the super athlete who comes with $5030 and all of the possible vehicles. You can also make your character fly when he jumps if you highlight the “Help” option at the “Play/Help Screen” and press Triangle 5 times.

1 Xtreme for Sony Playstation is a fun game to play with plenty of difficulties to try out and long tracks to enjoy.
