The Adams Family 2: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt for Gameboy

Do-do-da-doo SNAP SNAP, Do-do-da-doo SNAP SNAP, we all love the Addams Family, don't we? I don't know if it's the general populations fascination with tragedy (and how more tragic can it get than the Addams Family?) or just how they casually accept grim and creepy as their best traits, but we just adore them. Well, I hope you're really reading this then, because your favorite family is now in the Gameboy game Addams Family 2, The: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt Review.

Or should I say Pugsley, yes, the game stars the pudgy adolescent demon spawn of Gomez and Morticia. Now, even though he's portrayed as a protagonist, his mannerism and schemes are still clearly displayed throughout the game and they're just as enjoyable as the show. Just the fact that you're interacting in an Adam's family world is entertaining and even more so exciting. Okay, maybe I'm a tad biased due to the fact it's the Addam's family, but come on! This was one of those rare shows that was so out-there that it couldn't help become part of pop-culture. It had a style and sense of creepy fun all its own. It was memorable right down to the theme song, and it has gone on to be replicated in even M&M's commercials.

Your job as Pugsley in Addams Family 2, The: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt is to find family members while viciously fighting in a side-scrolling manner, he's fat, but man is he fast. At first glance you'll just see a game title trying to make a quick buck off memories, but it is an actual game. With little time spent you'll get the swing of things and before you know it you'll be filled with glee every time you pop in the game and hear that faithful theme song. Now don't get me wrong, the game isn't void of problems, but if you're an avid Addams fan, you'll enjoy this game.

Pugsley isn't all fight; he's a lot of adventure, too. He'll jump up on platforms and run through various rooms of the house to find his dear family members that are being held prisoner by boss's. Now, my personal belief is to never tell you what you'll see in the game specifically (as I feel it takes away some surprise value) but believe me you'll be entertained. If you're far enough into it and can really delve into the game emotionally, you'll actually feel the need to save your family members.

This can sometimes lead to frustration in Addams Family 2, The: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt as Pugsley's platforming feats feel not quite adequate enough when you see  a high platform above you and the pressure of rescues is bearing down on your overweight shoulders. This is quickly reassured when you make it up there, but when you're unsure, you can be quickly killed since the game is pretty hard on you about dying. My advice to you is simply don't get hit and think before you jump/run anywhere. This game will really test your gaming abilities, especially if you want to go through it without dying.

Now to the graphics, I like them. It feels like Gomez tortured the game developers himself for years and had the game designed his very own way. It has that loving, homey feeling with a touch of dread. You'll wander the halls of the Addam's house, and will be reminded of the adventures that were once had there during the television series. With that said, the characters could look better, but hey, it's a Gameboy.

Overall, I like it enjoy Addams Family 2, The: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt, if not loved it. Having a handheld Addam's Family story clinging to your side is a great comfort, even if it's a tad frustrating. A good game is a good game, and even if it's not perfect at least it'll provide some lasting video game memories, especially wth it's unique creep-esque style. I'll be keeping this in my Gameboy at all times for quick use, and I'm sure many of you will be too. The show's canceled, but that doesn't mean you have to give up on some good old family fun.
